Ancestral Lineage Healing

Part of my practice which relates to rage sessions is Ancestral Lineage Healing in the method of Ancestral Medicine and Daniel Foor, under the mentorship of Shannon Willis. I am currently receiving my certification to be a practitioner of this method of ancestral lineage healing and have been granted permission to take public clients as part of my certification.

Let’s chat and see if I’m the person to help you heal your ancestral wounds, and realize your ancestral gifts.

What is it?

Ancestral Lineage Healing is a framework for helping you to connect with your ancestors through the facilitation and support of a practitioner, so that you can create a relationship with them and catalyze any healing that your lineages may need. There are many cultures in the world who commune with ancestors, and this framework allows for the integration of any of these cultural practices to be honored.

What does a session look like?

There are no ‘typical’ sessions, but there are certain steps that my practice uses as a framework.

It is always necessary for the following sessions to happen successfully:

  1. Ancestral lineage assessment: I support you in seeing how well in spirit your blood ancestors are, and to determine who may need more attention or who is safer to approach.
  2. Finding a Guide: I help you find a guide on your first lineage and they set up a container for your ancestors to heal.
  3. Burdens and Gifts: Your guide helps you understand the burdens and gifts that that lineage brings to you and help you process this information as the dead heal.
  4. Updating the Lineage: When the ancestors are more healed and out of the container, I help you in updating your view of your lineage and extend this goodness to your living family and the people around you.
  5. Rinse and Repeat: Repeat with next lineage

There is much other work and connection that can be done with your ancestors:

  • Harmonizing Lineages: This involves connecting well lineages with one another and allowing them to weave together. This can be both enlightening and challenging, especially for those with mixed-race/colonizer and colonized lineages.
  • Thematic Work: You may want to work on specific topics in connection with your ancestors, for example relating to sexism, racism, specific cultural issues, etc. the possibilities are literally endless.
  • Other Than Blood Ancestors: Although blood ancestors are the initial focus, they are not the only type of ancestor and should not be seen as more important. Other kinds of ancestors are those of identity (queer, trans, punk, etc.), of vocation (activist, musician, healer, etc.), or non-human kin (animals, plants, and other beings who relate to you).

Indigenous practices

Respect and Appropriation

I have indigenous ancestry, and this informs some of the ways that I do this practice, such as the kind of offerings I bring (drumming, dancing, offering tobacco, etc.). That said, ancestral lineage healing is not part of my Anishinaabe heritage and I have no permission from elders to practice any traditional Anishinaabe healing rituals or the like.

Please do not ask me to perform Anishinaabe or pan-indian cultural practices.
